God’s Word of Truth–New Book to be Published in Russian

God’s Word of Truth:  Believing, Understanding, and Responding to the Word of God,  H. Lynn Gardner

I have written a new book entitled God’s Word of Truth: Believing, Understanding, and Responding to God’s Word. When I was planning this book, I thought of what my Bible college experience taught me about the Bible. I learned why I can believe it to be the Word of God. I also learned principles for interpreting the Bible so I can do my best to understand the author’s intended meaning in any text. I also learned to take God’s Word seriously in my personal life and in the church. In this book I have stated basic information about believing, understanding, and responding to the Bible, the Word of God.

Plans for publication in English are indefinite at this time. I shared my plan for the book with Sergei Golovin three years ago. Since then he has encouraged me to finish the project so it could be translated into Russian. I have sent the files with the manuscript to him and he has sent them for translation.

The following is a statement by Sergei about the book:

Being deeply rooted in the God’s word, books by Dr. Lynn Gardner in Russian translation became very effective instruments for spreading the teaching of Christ in post-communist context of former Soviet Union countries. Those nations were deprived of the biblical truth for several generations and comprehension of it is pretty fragmented and incomplete quite often. Shortage of proper Apologetics often results in superficial and easy shakable beliefs; shortage of Exegetics produces unclear understanding of the Scripture; shortage of guidance in its application to one’s life restrains growth in Christ.

That is why I was very glad to find out several years ago about the book, God’s Word of Truth, Dr. Gardner was planning to write with an integral approach to all three aspects of learning the Bible: why, how and what for. Now, when the book is complete, with great joy and praises to the Lord we are starting its translation into Russian for the greater glory of the Kingdom!

Where Are the Miracles by Dr. Garland Bare

Where Are the Miracles: Experiences and Testimony of a Doctor on the Mission Field (LifeChange Media,. 2015).

Dr. Bare details experiences in his life and the lives of others that he cannot explain by natural processes. At one time he believed miracles were limited to Bible times, but undeniable experiences changed his mind. He tells of experiences in his life and in his missionary and medical work beginning in Thailand which convinced him that God intervenes in today’s world. Readers who question miracles occurring today are asked to consider his eye-witness report. All are encouraged to stand in awe at our powerful God.

Where Are the Miracles gives eye-witness testimony to experiences which he believes demonstrate the supernatural hand of God. He does not try to force the reader to agree with him but asks the readers to consider the evidence and make up their minds.

Reader’s Comments:

“It is a wonderful book. It brought back many memories as well as teaching me many things beyond my child’s awareness at the time. I am so glad Dad has written it!”

Corinne Wilson, daughter of Garland and Dorothy Bare

“Along with the medical evidence for miracles presented in the book, the conversion of people like Saeng Pua provides more evidence of a different kind.”

Al Juve, Missionary in Japan

“Dr. Bare has done a great job of recounting his experiences in a way that glorifies God.”

Rhonda Juve, Missionary in Japan

“The story of what God has done through Dr. Garland Bare is filled with excitement and adventure. You will be inspired to believe with Dr. Bare that God doesn’t just open doors, He also knocks down walls. This book by Dr. Bare has inspired me to be a better follower of Christ. I believe it will also do the same for you.”

Boyce Mouton, Minister

The book can be ordered from Dr. Garland Bare, Friendship Circle, Joplin, MO 64801. The cost of the book is $10.00, postpaid.

Bob Stacy:

“What a beautiful book of memories! It means so much to me. I’ll never forget the influence that man had on my life. his spirit was certainly the Spirit of Christ. Nell was a freshman at OBC the year he came, so we’ve known him for a long, long time.”

“Brother Boatman” A Man of Conviction Who Led by Serving

I have written a book which will be published in the near future on the life and ministry of Don Earl Boatman, long-time president of Ozark Bible College (now Ozark Christian College) in Joplin, Missouri.

Strong convictions and servant leadership guided Don Earl Boatman as he led Ozark Bible College (now Ozark Christian College) in Joplin, Missouri, from 86 students to a peak enrollment of 803 in his twenty-seven-year presidency. The college emphasized biblical studies, preaching, evangelism, missions, and Christian service.

Learn of Don Earl and Gail Boatman’s early lives, his ministries and education, his career as a Bible college professor and president, and his priorities and principles for a Bible college. Why did he step aside from the presidency? Learn about the transition to Ken Idleman, his successor. What role did Mrs. Boatman take in his ministry and the life of the college? You will be inspired and challenged to live by your convictions and to serve others.

_____________

“After reading this book, people should be able to say, ‘Now I feel like I know Brother Boatman.’” Sam E. Stone, former editor of Christian Standard, Ozark alumnus

“What an enjoyable, nostalgic read! Having known the Boatmans since 1952, we are thrilled to see them honored in this way.” James and Marje Taylor, minister and counselor, Ozark alumni

“Dr. Lynn Gardner has done us a great service by documenting and articulating the convictions and servant leadership of Brother Boatman—the essence of his legacy.” Ken Idleman, Ozark Christian College President, 1979-2006

“Theology is at its best as biography, when we see God’s truth lived. Dr. Gardner has shown us in the life of Brother Boatman what Christlike service looks like.” Matt Proctor, Ozark Christian College President, 2006 to present

Good News from Louisiana

A Federal Judge Upholds Traditional Marriage

District Judge Martin Feldman in Louisiana upheld the state’s traditional marriage law. More than twenty federal judges had previously ruled against the traditional definition of marriage.

He said the states have the right to regulate marriage. The traditional law and the Constitution “are directly related to achieving marriage’s historically preeminent purpose of linking children to their biological parents.”

World Magazine, October 4, 2014, p. 8.

A State Prison Warden Known for Respecting the Prisoner’s Dignity

Warden Burl Cain manifests Christian values and leadership in Louisiana’s Angola Prison. Eric Metaxas states, “Actually, to call Angola a ‘prison’ and Cain its ‘warden’ is a bit off the mark. With 6,300 inmates and 1,800 employees and covering 18,000 acres, The Louisiana State Penitentiary, as it is officially known, is more like a small city with Cain as it mayor.”

A guard, who has worked at the prison for 37 years, said that “prisoners are offered incentives to better themselves, and when they prove trustworthy, they take positions of responsibility within the prison.”

Cain’s leadership expresses his Christian values. In the group, Malachi Dads, prisoners “pledge to provide spiritual leadership for their kids.” New Orleans Baptist Seminary offers a four-year degree the inmates can earn while in prison. Some become prisoner-pastors ministering to other prisoners. In their hospice program prisoners care for dying prisoners.

Cain and his employees respect the prisoner’s humanity. They seek their moral transformation and restoration to society.

The Gardners Accept Invitation to Serve in Jordan

Barbara and I have accepted an invitation from the Jordan Evangelical Theological Seminary (JETS) in Amman, Jordan, to teach for two weeks in August, 2010. I will teach a course entitled, “Worldviews,” which will focus on defending the Christian faith and worldview in response to other systems of thought. Barbara was asked to assist the seminary librarian.

Several years ago it was our goal for retirement to assist Bible colleges and seminaries in this way. But my pulmonary fibrosis and subsequent double lung transplant canceled those plans. I checked with my doctor at Barnes Hospital about this invitation. He asked, “Do you want to go?” I answered that I would like to. He said, “That’s why we do transplants.” They gave some safety tips for the plane trip, since I am immunosuppressed.

This evangelical seminary provides Bible-believing theological education for Arab Christians in the Middle East. I see this as an opportunity to give a strong background in apologetics to these students who will go back as leaders in their respective countries. Barbara will work with the librarian on principles of librarianship.

Jordan is a modern country, progressive in many ways and friendly with the United States. The country has freedom of religion with Christianity being a minority religion.

The seminary has weathered several financial crises but has been able to provide this valuable teaching program. They will take care of us after we get into the country, but we will need to pay for our plane tickets over and back. The Christian Church of Carl Junction has established a fund, Gardner Jordan Fund, for those who would like to make a tax-deductible gift to assist in the plane expense. Checks should be written out to Carl Junction Christian Church. The address is 103 Hodges St., Carl Junction, MO 64834.
